Legislative changes on land coming into effect

Amendments to the Lands Protection Act that were tabled and passed in the Fall 2021 Legislative Sitting will come into force on April 1, 2022.

The amendments made during the 1 st sitting of the 66 th General Assembly to the Lands Protection Act could not be brought into force until the Regulations under the Act were updated to reflect the changes. All four Regulations pertaining to exemptions, land identification, shore frontage, and forms have now been updated.

“These changes will further cement our commitment to modernizing and strengthening the PEI Lands Protection Act, as recommended by the Land Matters Advisory Committee. We know that this is the first step in a positive direction, and we look forward to continuing our work in protecting one of our most important resources: the land.”

- Agriculture and Land Minister Bloyce Thompson

Updated application and declaration forms that are required by the Lands Protection Act will be available through the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission’s website.
