Beginning Aug. 10, 2024, with the incoming Class of 2025, UWRF will offer three paths to first year student admission.

1. Traditional First Year Student Application Process

You’ll complete a Universities of Wisconsin Application or include us in your Common Application. Either way, the application is free and there is no essay requirement. We’ll review your transcript(s) and application information. If we need more information, we’ll reach out to you via email. You’ll get an admission decision in approximately two weeks.

2. Direct Admit Wisconsin

This program offers early and proactive admission to UWRF to high school seniors at participating Wisconsin high schools. We worked with participating high schools to review student academic records (GPA and courses) at the end of your junior year and offers of admission were sent to students, forgoing the need to submit a traditional application. You'll need to submit an Enrollment Form to accept the admission offer and to complete your student record for official admission to UWRF. Visit our Direct Admit Wisconsin page to learn more.

3. Falcon Fast Track

This program offers any high school senior the opportunity to get an admission decision before completing the traditional application process. You'll submit a very short Falcon Fast Track form and attach a copy of your high school transcript. We’ll review your transcript and let you know within 48 hours what your admission decision is going to be - we call it “pre-admission." You’ll still have to submit a Universities of Wisconsin Application to complete your student record and be officially admitted to UWRF. It adds a step to your process but it eliminates the uncertainty and delay!

To make the process smoother, we’ve compiled some helpful information about our admissions criteria and evaluation process.

We know there’s more to your story than a GPA and test scores. GPAs, class rankings and course options vary widely between high schools so we do a comprehensive review of your application. Although we consider both academic and non-academic factors, classroom performance remains the most important factor in our review process. We’ll take a close look at your high school transcript and evaluate both the challenge of your high school courses and your academic performance. We’ll also consider your extracurricular activities, personal achievements, community service, family commitments, employment responsibilities and any other information that you’d like to provide.

Your academic preparation – specifically the strength of your high school coursework – is an important piece of the admission decision. Listed below are the minimum course requirements for strong consideration of your application. Students who are most competitive for admission typically exceed these unit requirements.

English/Communications (composition, literature and rhetoric)

Additional Academic Electives (from the above areas or other academic or vocational areas)

*A unit equals one academic year of a subject.

Letters of recommendation (no more than two) are only encouraged if you don’t think your transcript accurately reflects your true abilities as a student. The most impactful recommendation letters are provided by teachers and others who can speak directly about your academic potential.

If you’re satisfied with your scores and think they accurately reflect your academic achievements, we encourage you to include them with your application. If you don’t think your scores accurately reflect your academic ability and potential or if you weren’t able to take a standardized test due to COVID-19, you should consider applying Test-Optional.

If you choose to include your test scores, they’ll be considered in your admission decision. If you choose to apply Test-Optional, you won’t be penalized for not submitting test scores.

Our application does not include an essay. We believe your academic performance and involvement in high school tells us more about you than a test score or short essay. If we need more information than what’s included on the application, we’ll reach out to you via email.

If you apply Test-Optional, standardized test scores won’t be considered in the review process, even if they’ve already been submitted to us by you or the testing agency.

You will be considered for merit-based scholarships whether you submit test scores or not. When determining your scholarship award, we’ll look at the same factors we considered when evaluating your application for admission – primarily your high school academic performance. Standardized test scores will be factored into your scholarship award if you choose to submit them, but you won’t be disadvantaged for scholarship funding if you choose to apply without them.

NOTE: In rare exceptions, test scores may be required if you want to be considered for one of our University Foundation scholarship programs.

Yes! Students are eligible for the Honors Program if they meet one or more of the following criteria:

• Composite ACT score of 27 or higher OR
• Graduated in the top 10% of high school class OR
• Have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.75 or higher

No matter how you apply, you won't be required to submit an essay. We believe your academic performance and involvement in high school are the strongest indicators of your preparation for college. If we need more information than what’s included on the application, we’ll reach out via email.

If you believe there’s a story or circumstance that is not reflected in the application, you can send an applicant statement via email to admissions@uwrf.edu or via your application portal and we’ll consider it in our admissions process.

How to Apply

Ready to apply? (Don’t worry, we’ve made it simple!)

1. Complete an online application at apply.wisconsin.edu OR via the Common App. (You only need to fill out one of the applications!)

2. Submit an ACT or SAT score (optional). When applying for admission to UW-River Falls, you have the choice to submit standardized test scores (ACT or SAT) as part of your admission application.

3. Submit transcripts. We accept student and counselor copies of transcripts sent via mail, email or electronic transcript service. We prefer electronic transcripts but hard copy transcripts may be sent to:
